It is said that comedian Munawar Farooqui can also participate in Bigg Boss 17. Munawar Iqbal Farooqui is an Indian stand-up comedian and rapper. In 2022 he appeared as a contestant in Kangana Ranaut’s reality television show Locked Up Season 1 and emerged as the winner of the show.
Farooqui was born in Junagadh, Gujarat. His family moved to Mumbai after their house was destroyed during the 2002 Gujarat communal riots. At the age of 17, he was forced to work to provide for his family when his father fell ill. While attending school, he worked at a pottery shop.
He worked as a graphic designer. In 2017, when various OTT platforms were starting up in India, he came to know about comedy and started working as a comedian.
In April 2020, he uploaded a standup comedy video named “Dawood, Yamraj Aur Aurat” on his channel, which earned him initial stardom. He released his first song “Jawaab”, a collaboration with Spectra, an Indian musician, in August 2020. On 28 February 2021, he uploaded a standup comedy video titled “Ghost Story” on his YouTube channel. In 2022 he became a contestant on Kangana Ranaut’s reality television show Locked Up. He was declared the winner of the show on 8 May 2022.
Farooqi was on his tour where he was doing comedy in different cities of India. On 1 January 2021, he performed a stand-up show at Munro Cafe in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, which was interrupted by Eklavya Singh Gaur, son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur, for making malicious jokes about Hindu deities and the minister. Was accused.
On 2 January, he was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police amid his comedy act saying that he was arrested under hate speech laws in India. Although the police had no evidence against Munawwar, he was arrested.
His arrest was heavily criticized for not respecting the freedom of speech of a comedian, including a joint initiative of the global Indian diaspora on 2 February 2021, which stated that a group of South Asian American stand-up comedians would be arrested on 6 February will do a virtual comedy show in support of Farooqui.
